Frequently asked questions

Quick answers before you contact us.

Is the service free?

Yes. In Your Corner is free to families.

Do I need a diagnosis?

No. A diagnosis is not required just to ask whether we can help.

Do I need an EHCP?

No. Many SEND and school-access problems happen before an EHCP exists.

Do I need to have made a formal complaint first?

No. Sometimes early clarification or evidence gathering is more useful than immediately filing a complaint.

Where do you operate?

Our initial service area is Kent & Medway.

What age do you support?

SEND and NHS pathways use different age boundaries. We currently check the relevant pathway during the scope assessment rather than applying one blanket age cut-off to every issue.

Will you contact the school, NHS or council for me?

Potentially. If the case is accepted and direct communication is appropriate, we will agree the scope and obtain authority before substantive third-party communication.

Can you guarantee a decision will change?

No. Nobody should honestly promise that. We can improve how clearly the evidence and questions are presented and use the appropriate route.

Can you represent me at tribunal or court?

Not as part of the current service. We do not conduct litigation or act as solicitors.

Can I send all my child's records now?

Please don't. Start with the issue, outcome, organisation and deadline. Sensitive evidence should only be shared once we have checked whether we can help and agreed an appropriate route.

How quickly will you reply?

We aim to acknowledge new enquiries within 2 working days. That is an acknowledgement target, not a promise that substantive casework will be completed within two days.

What if you are full?

We deliberately limit active cases. If we cannot take your case, we will tell you and, where reasonably possible, identify another route.

Who is responsible for my deadline?

You remain responsible unless In Your Corner expressly confirms in writing that we have accepted responsibility for a specific action.

Are you a charity?

Not currently. In Your Corner is an independent, volunteer-led project and is exploring formal charitable registration.
